We may never leave

Endless dunes
More dunes
Having driven along the south eastern coast of Spain, past obnoxiously built up towns such as Malaga and Algeciras, we were feeling that perhaps we had seen the best of Spain already. As we turned along the road towards the western coast, the buildings disppeared and long isolated stretches of blue appeared. Just north of Tarifa, the jumping off point for Africa, we pulled into our hotel along the beach (of course aptly named Chillout Hotel).

On the Costa de Luz
the light changes constantly
Touching the ocean
While we love forests and isolated mountains, we are at heart beach rats. Immediately in front of our room are the long, windswept beaches of the Coasta de Luz. Irradescent blue water laps at the shore of white sand. As the beach wraps around a cove, it melts into enormous sand dunes. This area is the windsurfing and kite sailing capital of Europe. With a strong, steady breeze blowing on shore there is no doubt to this claim. In the distance are the sparkling white houses of Tarifa. Beyond that are the straights of Gibralta and the shimmering coast of Africa. Behind the beach rich green mountains loom, shrouded in mist. In every direction the view seems to be "the most amazing view we have ever seen".

A rainbow over Tarifa
We lounged and walked along the beach for more than 5 hours despite the light rain. Watching the kite surfers skim across the waves, we realized that we have found our paradise. Returning to our hotel, we relaxed
Endless views
in lush gardens and as the name of the hotel says "chilled out".  Falling asleep to the sound of the waves crashing and the birds chirping in the trees was so peaceful.  We found the Spanish equivalent to our favorite Costa Rican beach near Potrero Bay.
