Departing to Arrive
This morning after another great breakfast at Christine and Seb's, we said our goodbyes and started the trip to the airport. We lugged our suitcases back up the hill, two more metros and more stairs before we reached the airport terminal. We checked in and made our way to the gate. The interesting thing about the airport in Madrid is that the gates are not announced until just before departure. In fact, they are not announced at all, but will suddenly appear on the electronic departures board. Luckily, we were in the correct gate area for our flight to Heathrow.
After 2 hours and 20 minutes, we arrived in England. As Jane's British passport is expired, we had to wait in the foreign nationals line. It was really interesting to watch all the people from various corners of the world. Our luggage was the first out and we breezed through customs. We located the central bus station and hopped on the 285 to Hampton Hill. About an hour later, we arrived at Granny's house. We were greeted by a big hug and warm tea. We spent the evening catching up and washing the several tons of laundry.
